Hoskins Funeral Homes & Crematorium

We are looking for a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer to join our team.


We are family-owned and operated funeral homes and crematorium serving the communities of
Central Newfoundland for over 30 years. Located in Grand Falls-Windsor, Bishop’s Falls and
Botwood.


The successful candidate must have:


- A valid NL Funeral Director and Embalmers License
- A valid Driver’s License
- Be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted


Required soft skills and attributes include:


- Problem solving, multitasking, excellent oral and interpersonal communication
- Professional service, appearance and attitude
- Trustworthy, honesty and loyalty, respect and able to work as a team


Required applicable skills:


- Regular day-to-day office operations and duties such as cleaning and regular paperwork
- Taking death calls
- Making removals and transfers
- Conducting Arrangement Interviews
- Properly and professionally answering the phone
- Conducting Funeral Services
- Embalming and preparation of remains
- Terminal disinfection practices and procedures
- On-call requirements some evenings and weekends
- Basic computer skills and some knowledge of basic programs such as Microsoft Word

Carnell ’s is a 400+ call Funeral Home and in additions to the noted responsibilities below provides trade cremations and embalming and has the Provincial Government Contract for the Medical Examiner removals/transfers and the Medical School Contract for their Anatomical Gift Program.

 

Our successful Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer (or Licensed Funeral Director ) must have:

​

1. Basic Skills

​

  • NL Funeral Director’s License or Funeral Director and Embalmer’s License with a minimum of 2 years work experience

  • A valid driver’s license will be needed

 

2. Soft Skills:

​

  • Will be able to multitask, prioritize, solve problems, and be a team player

  • Must balance professional service with the demanding workloads

  • Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude

  • Have higher than average office, computer and organizational skills with attention to detail

​

3. Skills:

​

  • Meeting families for Pre-planning/Pre-funding purposes with the ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Funeral Planning and Coordination for At Need families with professional experience interacting with the general public

  • Set up and clean the Reposing Room / Chapel / Receptions for At Need families

  • Conduct Funeral services at Chapel and Churches and conduct Committal Services  

  • The ability to work a shift work schedule which includes weekends /nights and be on call

  • The job requires physically challenging work that includes standing long periods of time, lifting, etc

  • Embalming skills Preparing Remains: Embalming for Traditional and  Short –Term Viewing is an asset

  • Cremation skills are an asset but not necessary but must be willing to learn

 

Corporate Benefits:

 

There is Group Insurance (Life, ADD, STL, LTL, Health, Vision and Dental) after a 6-month probationary period, with a Corporate Pension Plan available after 2 years of service.
